On The Eyrie Fund
The Eyrie Fund is an Asbury University sponsored "club" that seeks a return greater than the S&P 500 for a fraction of the schools endowment. Many schools have an investment fund for the endowment as there are plenty of reasons it is a positive decision. Perhaps the most important reason being inflation killing the dollar that is just sitting inactive. I, along with four of my good friends, run this investment fund. There are also seven analysts as of now and hoping to grow that number to around 15.
I am writing this during the summer of 2022 where we are on the brink of a recession in the market due to high QE as a result of the 2020 pandemic. I am encouraged by the fact that we will be able to start our process of investing in a time like this because it will require our up-most attention and hard work. It seems easy to beat the market during a bull run but to beat the market in a downturn is something special.
One lesson I have taken away from this process so far is the idea of preperation and organization. The key to being calm and focused in presentations is the be prepared, it never fails. If you are passionate and prepared, getting an idea across is easy. But it is just as hard as it is easy when you are unprepared. We use a broad macro view with many indicators when thinking about potential investment opportunities, and to understand them enough to teach someone, or to explain an idea is extremely important to preperation.
Another lesson I have learned is asking for help. Its not always easy to ask for help or for someone to explain a topic. In my case, I would rather spend the time to buy a book and learn something myself that sit with someone and take their time. This may be effective in some cases, but in most, my pride gets in the way of learning a topic quickly and efficiently. In my mind I often think I would be wasting someones time if I asked for help, but in reality it is the opposite. People who are wise in their field of study, love to teach their knowledge to younger hungry people who will appreciate their hard work.
I will continue to update the website with Eyrie Fund information, because of the value it is to my career along with my friends who work with me. Having a hands on experience like the Eyrie Fund is a great opportunity I want to record!
